Welcome to your new guide to substance abuse treatment options and centers. If you need any information on how drug and alcohol addiction can be treated or where a person can go to get treatment, this website can help you. It isn’t easy when a loved one is having a substance abuse problem. You have taken the right first step by coming here to look for help.

Addiction can—and does—happen to anyone. Someone can try a drug one time at a party and become addicted, for example. Or, a person can gradually become addicted, with their need for a particular drug becoming stronger and stronger as time goes on.

What many addicts don’t even realize is that their substance abuse doesn’t simply affect them—it has a profound affect on their loved ones. It can affect a person’s co-workers. It can also affect a person’s neighbors.

Substance abuse centers are equipped to help drug addicts conquer their addictions. Whether a person is addicted to crystal meth, alcohol, heroin, cannabis, prescription painkillers, or some other drug doesn’t matter. These centers can help with any type of addiction. Each type of substance abuse is different, of course, so each type requires a different approach. Substance abuse centers have trained staff, including doctors who have specialized in abuse and addiction. This staff understands each type of addiction and is able to work with each individual to beat their addiction.

There are two types of substance abuse centers. The first—and probably the best choice for most drug addicts—is a residential center. These are rehab centers where a drug addict lives for a certain period of time, usually at least four weeks. The second type of substance abuse center is an outpatient rehab. This type offers part-time assistance to drug addicts. The time is negotiable, depending upon the addict. It can range anywhere from a few hours each day to a few hours each week. The rest of the time, the addict is on his own.

Obviously, residential substance abuse centers are more costly than outpatient centers. But, residential centers can be much more helpful for drug addicts because they help with lifestyle changes. A change in lifestyle is necessary for an addict to really give up his drug of choice. Outpatient centers do offer counseling, both individually and in groups, but since the addict returns home afterwards there is great temptation present to return to addictive behavior.

Sometimes, insurance programs can be helpful in paying for the cost of substance abuse centers. It is wise to check the addict’s insurance policy before looking for any treatment center because some policies only cover certain centers.

If, however, insurance will not cover a residential rehab center, loved ones may want to consider trying to find a way to pay. This is because going to a residential center rather than an outpatient one is much more likely to end with success. Of course, there is still a chance that the addict will relapse; however, this chance is much smaller for an addict who has had treatment at a residential substance abuse center. It may be worthwhile for loved ones to foot the bill if it will really help the drug addict.
