Teen Alcohol Abuse and Drug Abuse in Texas

On checking the statistics for offenses committed under the influence of drug and alcohol abuse in Texas, it is seen that most of these people are of the age group of 18 to 25 years. This means that there is a large number of youth that are into substance abuse in Texas and these are proving to be a threat to the stability of the state as well. Unless this problem is cleared out as soon as possible, it will only go on worsening and become a very regressive factor for the state.

It is estimated that out of every five youngsters in the state, four of them have had their first alcoholic drink by the time they are out of high school. Out of these, a sizeable number has entertained themselves with activities such as binge drinking, which happens when the person has had more than five drinks at one go. These are also the youth who need to drive home after their binge drinking episode and this is what proves so perilous to themselves and the people in the street.

But the problem does not stop there. It is seen that youth who begin drinking early on will soon get used to the high that alcohol can produce and then will want to check out other kinds of high. Substance abuse resources in Texas indicate that most youngsters with a long standing alcoholism problem in the state will go on to a marijuana addiction, and then to worse forms of addiction like heroin and cocaine. The methamphetamine addiction in Texas is also mostly concentrated among the youth groups of the state.
